Maths

This week in school we have been exploring patterns. We have been discussing how patterns can be shown in lots of different ways. For example, we may find patterns with shapes and objects or a pattern using letters. We may see a pattern with different colours or hear a pattern of sounds.

The children have had great fun creating patterns using objects around the classroom.

We also tried to noticed the pattern in sounds and found this good song to show the pattern bang - bang - clap.
Ask your child to show you the actions to the sound pattern to this song.

Taylor - "I made a pattern Miss Mullan"

Hayden - "My pattern goes: red, green, orange, brown, red, green , orange, brown"

Mavis:   "I did red, yellow and purple"

Martyn: "Blue one, red one, blue one..."

Alice: "These patterns took me a long time"

Poppy: My pattern is blue, red, then orange and then yellow"

Key Vocabulary: pattern, repeating, shape.

How to support your child this week at home.

Make a repeating pattern using fruit from the fruit bowl and make some delicious fruit kebabs.

Make patterns using the cutlery...  spoon spoon fork, spoon spoon fork.

Literacy

This week, we started a new topic book Izzy Gizmo.  This is a story about Izzy, a girl who loves inventing things.  This week the children have become inventors and thought about what they would like to design and invent.

We have had some fantastic ideas!

Harvey: "My invention is a sweetie making robot"

Kylie:  My invention is a magic machine"

Reading with Theo!

This week we have been extremely lucky to be visited by our lovely reading dog Theo. Theo really enjoyed meeting our reception children and enjoyed hearing them reading.

School reading dogs have been proven to help children develop reading skills, improve behaviour and academic confidence as well as increasing children's understanding of empathy and nurturing skills along with supporting  anxiety and emotional needs.
