Early Years Lapland Day




On Friday 15th December the children in Nursery and Reception are invited to wear Christmas outfits/jumpers to school as part of our Lapland Day experience.


The day will be filled with fun Christmas activities, and the children will enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and a biscuit.

Each week, a child in each class is awarded the E for Excellence certificate in recognition of their hard work.

MDA Awards

Each week, the mid-day assistants will award a child in each class with a MDA award for demonstrating consistently good behaviour at lunchtime.

Dojo Winner Of The Week

During the week, the children in reception can earn dojo points for good behaviour. They can earn these for good listening on the carpet, being kind and polite, sharing and tidying resources or helping a friend. Each week, the child with the most dojo points will be awarded with a certificate and have their photo displayed in the classroom.

105 Books to Read Before you Leave Broadford Primary 

The children will be awarded with a Bronze, Silver or Gold award when they have read 15 of the 105 Books to Read Before you Leave Broadford. Please refer to the booklet in your child's reading folder for the list of books. 

Bronze- Read 5 books 
 Silver- Read 10 books 
Gold- Read all 15 books 

Please read with your child at home in order for them to have an opportunity to achieve a reading certificate.

Nursery learning: 24th November 2023



  

 

Important reminders  
  • All Nursery Christmas Celebration Concert tickets should have gone home today (Friday). If you have not received yours, please talk to a member of the team. 
  • Reception school applications: Please be aware reception application deadline is January 15th 2024. Outcomes will be released April 2024. Please use this link to apply for your child's primary school place for September 2024 https://www.eadmissions.org.uk/
  • All children should be wearing a winter Uniform which includes a warm coat to school. The children will continue to play outdoors during the winter months. Parents may provide wellies for outdoors if they wish. Please make sure all items are clearly labelled with your child's name.
  • If parents/carers have any barbie dolls and accessories, garages with ramps or small cars that are no longer used at home we would really appreciate donations of these items. 

Focus play this week:

This week the children have been working on their language skills. We have been playing fun games to help expand our vocabulary and build our sentence structures, by using full sentences to identify the name of the animal on the dice and make the animal sound.


Book of the week:

This week the children have been listening to the book Cats Colours. The children really enjoyed naming the colours and discussing cats kittens.

  • Christmas concert:
The children have been practicing for their christmas concert on Monday 4th December. We kindly ask parents if they can please practice singing the songs at home.

Our learning fun this week:

This week the children have been exploring colours, patterns and how they can be changed. We spoke about how the light affects the paper and how the same colour may look different depending if the light is dark or bright (day or night).



We have ben practicing our pencil grip, applied pressure and pencil control in the art and writing areas as the children have been developing their name writing skills and free marking. Some of the children have been attempting to make, mark and draw cats using scissors and coloured pencils to recreate their version of Cats Colours.






Outdoor fun:

The children have been having fun in the garden. We have been developing our listening skills by practicing with musical instruments and dancing and singing to music.
The children have been creating their own obstacle course games using the outdoor resources. We have been traveliing in and out of tyres an finding different ways to move over cones, from jumping, steping and waddling. We have been very creatie in our thinking.




Story suitcase:

A big thank you to Eden for taking Mr Bear home to read with his family, drinking hot chocolate and having fun. Mr bear had a fantastic time and looks forward to going home with another child in the coming future.










Nursery Certificates- 24.11.23

                      

Each week, 2 children in Nursery will receive an E for Excellence certificate in recognition of their hard work. 

A massive congratulations to Adelynn, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for her growing confidence in Nursery. Each week's we are seeing Adelynn becoming more confident to talk to her teachers and share her ideas and stories. We love hearing what she has to say and she always makes us smile. 


 

A huge well done to Prisha, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for expanding her friendship group. Prisha enjoys playing lots of different games with her friends and talking to them. It is lovely to see this new growing confidence in Prisha. 



Well done to Zain, Nylah and Matthew who have completed their tracker by reading 'our five favourite books' in Nursery! Super job, keep up the reading!

Topic:

This week we have been learning about the importance of Diwali in the Hindu religion. We read the story of Rama and Sita and discussed how Hindu people celebrate Diwali. We practised our language and communication skills by retelling the story with puppets. Children had the opportunity to create their own Diya lamp and practised skills of moulding carving and painting. 




At the end of the week, we had our own Diwali celebrations trying some naan bread and learning a Diwali song and dance. 


We are also working hard on our Christmas concert rehearsals and hope to see you all there in a couple of weeks!


Maths: 

In maths, we expanded our number knowledge to 4 and 5 by practising finding, representing and counting these numbers quickly.

Reception Children in Need 2023





Children in Need 2023

On Friday we celebrated Children In Need! The children came to school in their spotty clothes and had lots of fun participating in a range of Pudsey activities. 


Each class created their very own Pudsey masterpiece! The children worked collaboratively to design their own Pudsey bear, which was then displayed on our classroom doors.

Topic:

This week we have been learning about Remembrance Day and why people were wearing poppies over the weekend. We explored why this day is significant and how we commemorate those who fought in the war. Children described a poppy in their writing and practised listening for the sounds they could hear in words such as 'red' and 'soft'. 


Children had the chance to create their own poppy fields by using using their fingers in paint to create the leaves and centre. Once dry, they drew the stems to complete the flower. 


We spoke about how poppies were a sign of hope during the war and then got our hands dirty outside, planted some poppy seeds in the garden. 


Maths: 

This week we have been learning to identify and create a triangle and a circle. We also explored positional language such as over, under, through and in between by taking a friend through an obstacle course.
