Chinese Lunar New Year:

Book of the week:

As part of our exploration into the chinese lunar new year, the children have been listening to the story 'The Chinese New Year' by Joanna Troughton. The children have enjoyed learning how the years were named after animals, as well as the idea of racing to see who went first.

Please click the link to watch the story at home: The Chinese New Year

This week the children have been introduced to the ideas and culture surounding The Chinese Lunar new year. We watched cultural video clips made by children explaining how and why they celebrate chinese new year. We learnt a new dance called the dragon dance, which was very fun. We even took part in an interactive story using animal propts.
The children had lots of fun creating a dragon from cardboard boxes, tissue paper and lots and lots of glue. Our Dragon took three days to create, once finished the children enjoyed parading around the classroom and garden wearing the Dragon costume, making fire breathing sounds. Everyone was amazed by our nursery dragon.

Fun with food:

The children experimented eating Noodles this week. We exercised our fine motor skills by attempting to use chopsticks to eat our noodles. We tasted a variety of dipping sauces, as well as prawn crackers. This was a tasty treat the children enjoyed very much.

Play this week:

Maths in Action:

The magnetic numbers have continued to be a big hit with the nursery children. Tis week we used them to match number cards on the maths table. The children have enjoyed matching, as well as showing creativity to sort and organise the number magnets beyond the ativity set out by teachers. The children love showing their super skills and ideas.

A special friend for nursery:

The Junior children kindly brought the nursery children a special friend called Edward the Caterpillar this week. The children created a habitat for the caterpillar by collecting leaves, sticks, appleas and carrots for our converted fish tank. The children were super amazed watching the caterpillar in the tank; how it moved, crawled over the objects and they even saw him eat some of the apple. The nursery children were able to link the caterpillar to the story 'The hungry caterpillar', with some children able to retell he story from memory. The children loved using the magnifying glasses to see the catterpillar in more detail, discussing its eyes, legs and how it ate the apple. Edward the caterpillar provided hours of discussions, ideas, and information sharing amongst the children, as well as practicing our turn taking skills.

Creative fun:

We love to have fun at nursery, and this week Mrs Maguire allowed the children to give her a superb make over. The children spent long periods of time concentrating, checking Mrs Maguire was ok and if she liked what they were doing. Practicing their fine motor movements in a fun and creative way. Mrs Maguire loved her new look and the children were very happy with their achievements.

Thank you for a fantastic week of learning and fun at nursery.

We look forward to seeing you back ater half term.
