Nursery learning 24.03.23

Important Messages

• All reading books are changed on a Friday morning. Please ensure your reading folder is placed in the box in the entrance of Nursery by Thursday.
• If your child comes out on Friday without their reading folder, please ask them to go back in and check their tray as it will have been put in there. 
• Please check at home to see if you have any books from Nursery that may have got mixed in with your own books.
• Water play is part of the children's learning which means that sometimes they can get wet. Please ensure that they have a spare set of clothes with them. 
• If you have any of the nurseries clothes (pants/knickers, socks, trousers, legging ect...) please can we ask you to return the clothing items asap as we are running low.
• Donations- we have has a couple of parents donate a bag of socks and and a few other items which has been hugely helpful. If you are having a clear out and have any socks, underwear, bottoms that you no longer require, we would gratefully receive them. 
• Please ensure you arrive and collect the children on time. 

The children enjoyed preparing the garden this week. They turned over the soil and dug out the weeds so we could plant some new seeds. They then helped to carefully place the seeds in and watered the plants together. We are looking forward to watching as they grow! 

We have been busy marble painting in the art area this week. 

The children are so creative outside. Using their gross motor skills to lift the crates and large blocks, the children worked collaboratively to build a bus. The children made the bus big enough for the whole group playing to fit inside.

We practicing our skills we have learnt over this half term and had some delicious banana bagels this week. The children helped to toast, mash and spread and enjoyed eating the final product! 

This week we have enjoyed planting herbs in our outside area. We looked at the packets and the seeds, we spotted some were tiny and round, some were large and black and looked at the packets carefully to see what they would grow into. The children sprinkled the seeds and watered them, we have added labels so we can see what herbs are growing. 

 

REMINDER: Reception Stay & Learn 21.03.23

 Reception Stay & Learn 

Dear Parents and Carers,

There will be a Reception stay and learn session tomorrow (Tuesday 21st March 2023) at 9am. The session will focus on how Maths is taught in Reception. Please bring your child to their classroom as usual and then make your way back to the main entrance. You will then be admitted to the classrooms for a 9am start.

The sun might not be shining brightly yet but as you can see from Rostam's face, we still have fun in the garden. Rostam was have a great time singing songs about minibeasts with an adult whilst in the garden. 

The children all love Friday mornings as they get to choose their own books to take home. Miss Day talks to each child about what they have been reading and ticks off the returned books.

Water play whatever the weather! The children love using the tap to fill up different containers. This week their mission was to try and fill up the water trays by carrying water in a container of their choice.

Super job by Vedashi this week. After painting a picture, she independently wrote her own name on her painting, using paint! 

Look at our 2 year olds go! This week in the snack area we were making banana milkshakes. The children loved chopping and mashing up the bananas and pouring the milk (or oat milk separately)  but the most exciting part was watching it all blend together in the mixer. The children then poured themselves a cup of milkshake.

Super building from the boys in the construction area today. They spent a long time working together creating their building. It was fantastic to observe their concentration and collaboration.

E for Excellence

Each week, a child in each class is awarded the E for Excellence certificate in recognition of their hard work.

Aspen -  Freya, for your passion for reading! You have shown a real love for books and have been applying your sounds to read longer words. 

Apple - Alariah, for her hard work learning bonds of 5 in maths. She has been practising hard to speedily remember partners of 5 and even some to 10!

Alder - for your hard work learning your sounds. You have been working so hard and we are very proud of you. 

Dojo Winner Of The Week

During the week, the children in reception can earn dojo points for good behaviour. They can earn these for good listening on the carpet, being kind and polite, sharing and tidying resources or helping a friend. Each week, the child with the most dojo points will be awarded with a certificate and have their photo displayed in the classroom.

Nursery certificates 17.03.23

Each week, 2 children in Nursery will receive an E for Excellence certificate in recognition of their hard work.

A huge well done to Eden, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for his love and knowledge of number. Eden was able to count up to 100 and use the numicon to show that 3 lots of 10 make 30. Super job, Eden.

A big well done to Rushika, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for her love of reading. Rushika loves story time and over the last few weeks has been growing in confidence and has been retelling stories to adults and her friends. 

Mariam and Amelia have completed their tracker by reading 'our five favourite books' for 3-4 year olds! Super job boys, keep up the reading!

Marvellous Maths in Reception 10.03.23

 Marvellous Maths in Reception 

This week in Reception, the children explored time. The children started by making toast for their morning snack. They watched to see how long it takes for bread to turn into toast. 

We then looked back over our time in reception so far, and ordered significant events such as the Christmas concert and events that we are yet to celebrate such as Easter. 

We also looked at their baby photos and saw how they have changed from babies to now. The children enjoyed telling their friends what they liked and disliked as babies and how they have changed since then.
