Money, Money Money!

The children returned to school today to find a shop in our maths area. There was much excitement over the opening of the class shop and the lines for the tills were pretty long!

We have seen lots of Maths going on, from recognising of numbers on price tags, to developing language related to money and even some adding up of items! The shopkeeper role has proved popular and the children have managed turn taking by using a sand timer to support them.
Role play also helps to develop children's language and communication skills.

Max: "That will be 8p please"
Pico: 'I have counted 8 coins"
Mrs Salisbury: "Let's count the coins, Samuel.... one, two, three"

Henry: "Look how many coins I have Miss Mullan"
Aryaan: "Ive got 6 coins"

Ryan: "It costs six pence"

Parisa: "We need to open the till"

Sophie: "It is 3p"

Perhaps, you could set up a shop at home and use some real money to buy some food or toys.
You could also try this great toy shop money game.

Happy Shopping!
