Woodwork Wonders!

After learning the basic skills of hammering and screwing the Reception children have begun to apply their new skills. The children are currently using Balsa wood as it is very soft and ideal for beginner woodwork. They have a range of resources available to choose from and they have loved exploring the different materials. Once the children are confident with these basic skills, we will progress on to using pine (if you have any lying around at home we would be grateful for any donations!).

Woodwork provides children with a unique opportunity that covers so many different areas of learning. Not only a different material for children to develop their creativity and construction skills in,  it also helps them to manage risks, solve problems and develop fine motor skills. Who knew so much learning was going on when they built that car!

"It's a car, it has two wheels" - Kayne
"I can finish mine at home because my dad has lots of tools" - Keira
