Nursery Newsletter 16.10.17

Term: Autumn 1                      Date: 15.10.17
Dear Parent/Carer,

The children enjoyed sharing the story 'Avocado Baby' last week. The children had the chance to feel and look at avocados, some were even brave enough to taste! We also opened our Woodwork area last week. The children worked in pairs to create some fantastic models, they worked very carefully and listened to all the safety instructions. Look out for photos on the EYFS Blog!
This week we are sharing the story 'Rosie's Walk' by Pat Huchins. The children will be encouraged to spot repeated patterns in the text and join in with phrases. The core Nursery Rhymes we are focusing on this week are: 'Pat a Cake' and 'If you're happy and you know it' The children have been enjoying joining in with our daily calendar and song and movement sessions.

Thank you to the parents/carers who have already emailed/sent in family photos. It really helps the children to talk about their home lives. Please try to send in or email a family photo to  eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk this week.

Reminder: Individual Photos will be taken this week on Tuesday 17th October.

These are the skills we will be focusing on this week:
Mathematics
We are modelling how to use the resources in the area and ensuring children have quality opportunities to develop their maths skills/language in each area.

Physical
Handles tools and objects carefully. This includes cutters and tools in our malleable area this week and being able to pour water from jugs carefully in the water area.

Literacy
At this stage of development mark making is a physical activity. We provide lots opportunities for the children to develop their shoulder, elbow and wrist control.
This week we will be using the conkers parents have kindly donated for dipping in paint and controlling the movement around a tray.

Snack
This week we are making our own mini pizzas. The children will make the dough from scratch and will have the choice of a variety of healthy toppings to top their pizza with.

Communication and Language
Encouraging children to use simple sentences correctly.
Encouring children to hold a conversation and respond to comments.

Personal and Social Development
Ensuring children are able to co-operate with routines and some boundaries.
Modelling the correct behaviours in play, ensuring children use resources well and begin to share with other children.

We are happy to see that the children are quickly learning the Broadford Values.

Messages
Reading to your child is very important. This week we will start to put the Nursery reading cart outside at the end of sessions. Please borrow any books from the cart so you can share them with your child, you can write the title of this book in the small red book they will take home. Remember to return the book when you are finished.

Kind regards,
