Nursery Newsletter 30.10.17

Term: Autumn 2                     Date: 30.10.17
        Dear Parent/Carer,

We hope you had a lovely half term break and we look forward to welcoming the children back for their first full half term! If you have any pictures you would like to share of any trips/experiences the children have had this half term please email them to:eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk. Photos are a great way to support children to communicate and we love to hear what they have been doing at home.
This week we will be sharing the story ‘Pumpkin Soup’. The children will cut and roast the pumpkins to make some special pumpkin soup and even a pumpkin pie.

These are the skills we will be focusing on this week:
Mathematics
Supporting the children to recognise numbers in the environment. Learning number songs to support them to count forwards and backwards.

Physical
Handles tools and objects carefully. The children will be supported to develop hand/eye coordination by using wooden hammers to put golf tees into pumpkins.

Literacy
At this stage of development mark making is a physical activity. We provide lots opportunities for the children to develop their shoulder, elbow and wrist control.
This week we will encourage the children to mark make in gloop (cornflour mixed with water).

Snack
The children will help cut up and roast the pumpkins to make a delicious pumpkin soup that they can taste.

Communication and Language
Encouraging children to use simple sentences correctly.
Encouraging children to hold a conversation and respond to comments.
We will be sharing the story ‘Pumpkin Soup’ and supporting the children to remember key events in the story.

Personal and Social Development
Ensuring children are able to co-operate with routines and some boundaries.
Modelling the correct behaviours in play, ensuring children use resources well and begin to share with other children.
