Charlie the story teller visits Reception!

Our topic this half term is 'What's in a Story?'. The children will be reading a variety of traditional tales looking at the characters, settings and structures of the stories. Along with retelling stories, the children will discuss alternative endings and begin to bring their own ideas to life.

As our experience for this half term the Reception children all took part in a workshop on Friday with Charlie the story teller. Charlie was highly engaging and the children all responded well to his stories, instruments and songs. Each class heard a story about a family of rattlesnakes and they helped to act out and tell the story together. In the story there is a baby rattlesnake who tries to play tricks on other people.

The children all demonstrated fantastic listening and attention skills during their workshops and many came back into the classrooms and began to retell the story. Story telling is a fantastic activity to help develop communication and language skills as well as literacy skills.

"I was the baby rattlesnake, I had the biggest rattle." Zachary
"I really liked the songs we sang." Lidia
"He was really funny, he kept tricking us!" Ellie-Maie
