Term: Spring 1 Date: 22.01.2018
Dear Parent/Carer,
The children enjoyed sharing the story of 'The Princess and the Pea' last week. They developed their fine motor skills by podding lots of peas to add to the pea soup the children made and tasted. This week we are sharing the story 'The Gingerbread Man'. As the children particularly enjoyed exploring vegetables and talking about how things grow last week we have provided lots of opportunities for them to explore herbs, scents and smells this week.
These are the skills we will be focusing on this week:
Mathematics
We are supporting the children to count in order and match numeral to quantity. The have lots of different objects to explore and count to decorate the gingerbread men.
Physical
The children have started small group sessions with our PE coach Miss Evans. This week they are developing their co-ordination using a large ball to roll, throw and catch.
Literacy
The children have lots of props available for them to create their own fairytale puppets and talk about characters in stories.
This week in Letters and Sounds we are continuing to focus on the children blending syllables. The children will have a selection of objects to begin to hear the syllables in words.
To help you understand this skill you can watch this clip for an example:
