Term: Spring 1 Date: 08.01.2018
Dear Parent/Carer,
The children have settled back into Nursery and have enjoyed their first week back. This half term we are focusing on ‘Fairytales’. The children really enjoyed the story book ‘Once upon a Time’ and were able to name many of the characters from traditional fairytales. This week we are sharing the story of Goldilocks and the three bears.
Please remember this is your last week to apply for places for Reception. If you have had any problems applying speak to a member of staff this week. Attending the Nursery does not automatically mean you will have a Reception place and applying to the Havering website is very important.
These are the skills we will be focusing on this week:
Mathematics
The children helped to place numbered small logs across a ‘pond’ for the frog to hop to the princess. They will have opportunities to recognise, sort and order numbers when playing with the frogs and logs.
Physical
The children have started small group sessions with our PE coach Miss Evans. This week they are practicing throwing and catching using beanbags.
Literacy
The children will be able to mark make in sparkly cornflour. At this stage mark making is a physical activity and this allows them to develop elbow and wrist control.
Workshop
The children requested a wand making station last week. This week we have enhanced the area with twigs, paint, glitter and gems to allow them to create their own fairytale wands.
Snack
This week the children are making porridge. They have a variety of toppings available to choose from including blueberries, honey, banana, apples, sultanas and raspberries.
Communication and Language
Encouraging children to use simple sentences correctly.
Encouraging children to hold a conversation and respond to comments.
Personal and Social Development
Ensuring children are able to co-operate with routines and some boundaries.
Modelling the correct behaviours in play, ensuring children use resources well and begin to share with other children.
The children will be able to help set up a teddy bears picnic for our Goldilocks story this week. This will allow the children to share resources and ideas with each other when engaging in play.
Messages
Please see the letter regarding accepting Parentmail from 2 simple. This will allow you to see your child’s report.
Kind regards,
The Nursery Team
