  • Reminders

  • Key Information

Quote of the week:

“Miss Ellender, Miss Ellender. I’m a lamborghini! A white one, a lambo! Listen… brrrruuuuuummmmm. Say it, say it”

Ryan says to Miss St Louis as he waits for her to say “123, GO”, making realistic lamborghini sounds running around the garden.

Reminder:

Can Parents please bring in a CUP, Wellington boots and a drawstring bag with spare clothes ASAP. Please LABEL  all your children's belongings, including both shoes. Please ensure your child knows what their cup and wellies look like.

Thank you

Short stay session

This week the children had their short stay sessions at nursery. It was an opportunity to explore their nursery environment, play with their new teachers and find out about the nursery routines including lunch. The children were very excited to see all the toys, play with the activities and engage with the free flow access to the garden.

“I made a castle” said Daisy

Wow challenge:

The children have been mastering how to take off and put on their own shoes and socks independently.

Ashlean counted her steps aloud as she walked along the chalk snake

We have been trying hard to build new relationships with our friends and teachers.

We have been developing our physical skills: catching, throwing, jumping and coordination. But most importantly sharing with friends.

The sand pit has clearly been the children's favourite activity this week.

Hello song

Everyday the children will sing the hello song during circle time. Sing helps children with their speech and language skills and confidence. The hello song helps children learn the name of their new friends, as well as their teachers.

We have written the song lyrics if parents wish to learn the song with their children at home:

Hello Song:

Hello, child’s name

Hello, child’s name

Hello, child’s name

And how are you today?

Child then answers the question, key worker may prompt with feeling cards.

Yay! It's time for our normal session times

From monday 27th September the children will start their full time sessions:

AM: 8.30am to 11.30am

PM: 12.15pm to 3.15pm

30 hours: 8.30am to 3.15pm

From monday all parents are to say goodbye before the doors open at 8.30am, ready for the children to walk into nursery independently. No parents will be allowed within the nursery. We politely ask all parents to respect our decision and not enter the nursery doors, which allows teachers to support children as they enter.

We understand many of our pupils have siblings and advise parents to drop nursery children first in the morning. The nursery doors will open at 8.30am until 8.40am. If your child arrives after 8.45am you will be required to enter through the main school office.

Session attendance Routine:

1. Please stand on a coloured spot and wait to be called forward by a teacher who will greet your child.

2. Your child should leave you at the nursery door. Please say goodbye and reassure them you will be back to collect them at the end of the session before nursery opens.  Please speak to your child about the nursery in a positive way and remind them they will stay and play with their friends and you will always come back to collect them.

3. Upon collection doors will open five minutes before the end of the session (11.25am for morning dismissal and 3.10pm for afternoon dismissal). At the end of the session, the main doors will open. Please do not crowd the nursery door as this may delay the children being released and can scare the young children.

We can not wait to start this new chapter with you.

Reception Learning Week 4

Reception Learning - Week

We have had another wonderful week in Reception. We have continued with our topic book; The Rainbow Fish The children have really enjoyed using celery sticks to print some scale patterns onto the fish. We have continued to explore the story in our carpet time sessions and how we should be kind and caring to others, sharing our toys and resources and including others in our play. The

Lola " I am going to use yellow for my fish"

Tommy; "I painted it!"
Eva; "I made my fish gold and yellow and red and it was even sparkly!"

Mavis- "I just love mixing all the colours!"
Millen- "I think it's funny that we are unsing celery to paint and not paint brushes!

Messy Mud Kitchen Fun!

The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the reception mud kitchen area. The open-ended nature of mud play encourages creative thinking and allows children to freely create without fear of making mistakes, contributing to a child's sense of self, and helping to build confidence. Mud kitchens encourage children to talk about what they're doing, and often the excitement of being outside and involved in messy play gets young learners feeling even more confident about speaking and sharing their thoughts. Not to mention the huge health benefits of immune boosting dirt.

It gets very muddy in our mud kitchen area, so we would like to remind you to send in a pair of named wellington boots in to school for your child to wear in their play.

The children have access to waterproof puddle suits in school and will be encouraged to put these on.  Adults will be around to assist children with putting on their puddle suits but we will encourage them where possible to be as independent as they can be.

Darcey " I am making soup"

Poppy " Look Darcey, I have found some leaves for our soup!

McDonald's Broadford Primary

The children this week have shown great reciprocity and collaborated well together to design and build their own McDonald's restaurant using the construction blocks. The children found some post it notes and pencils to take orders and were using their phonics skills to sounds out the food items. This is a great example of child initiated learning and it was so lovely to see. Child-initiated play supports children's creative and imaginative learning and developmental skills. It also enables them to learn first hand experiences, allowing them to choose how to use their resources.

Edie: "What would you like to order, Mrs Hathaway?"
Kai: "I'll cook the burger Edie!"
Elsie: " I liked decorating McDonalds".

Phonics Learning

In Phonics, we have learnt the sounds  i n p g o  We have been practicing our letter formation for each sound in our Read, Write, Inc books. If you would like to practice this further with your child at home, the sheets for each sound can be downloaded by clicking the links below.

EYFS: Parent and Carer Blog; Real Nappy Scheme

Havering Real Nappy Scheme

Benefits

Real nappies are made out of natural or synthetic materials and contain less chemicals than disposable nappies.

When using real nappies you can reduce your babies exposure to chemicals by using an eco-detergent, avoiding PVC-wraps, using organic cotton, hemp or bamboo products and avoid sanitiser. Tea tree oil is a good natural agent which you can use to soak in if you decide to do so.

Chemicals and gels used in disposable nappies are not subject to UK government controls or testing.

For more information you can log onto the Real Nappies For London or Go Real National Nappy Campaign websites.

Many families are suffering financial hardship and the Real Nappies for London blog gives you some helpful tips on how you can spend less money on disposable nappies and help reduce waste.

Real nappies can save you money in the long term and help benefit the environment too.

Facts and figures

Disposable nappies can take over 300 years to breakdown in landfill – this produces methane gas which adds to global warming

With the average baby getting through 4 – 6,000 disposable nappies by the time they’re potty trained, and with disposable nappies being one of the worst sources of contamination in recycled waste, reusable nappies significantly reduce material in the waste system.

Using just one reusable nappy in place of a disposable every day could save 1000 nappies from landfill during the early stages of a child’s life.

The average daily plastic consumption of single-use nappies is equivalent to throwing away seven supermarket plastic bags per day per person.

Real nappy packs

There are several types of cloth nappies, and a wide range of brands and styles available to suit your needs or material preferences.  You can purchase cloth nappies through many online retailers and in some stores.

Our free sample nappy packs are available to Havering parents/parents to be/carers with children less than 18 months old (limited to one pack per child). The pack contains everything you need for trying out two different types of cloth nappies, and include:

  • 1 x pocket nappy with two bamboo booster pads

  • 1 x all-in-one nappy

  • 1 x pack nappy liners (100 liners per pack)

  • 2 x washable cotton cheeky wipes

Both nappies are ‘Birth to Potty’ nappies so can be used from birth although they fit much better on a baby of around 3 months and will expand with your growing baby until they are ready to change to regular underwear.

However, if you are keen to start from birth and want a better fitting nappy for a newborn then we do offer a small size shaped nappy as an alternative to the birth to potty shaped nappy, so just let us know.

Nappy pack applications

Due to the outbreak of Covid 19, the delivery of nappy packs will be delayed until the lifting of the current Government lockdown.

You may still apply for a nappy pack and your application will be processed once normal services resume.
