Two year old focus
This week we have been learning about our emotions; happy, sad and angry. We have been developing our positive sense of self and how to wait and take turns. We have been learning new words to help extend our play.
Our focus nursery rhyme next week will be:
Our focus learning
Maths: the children have been focussing on Counting numbers this week through our play. We have played fun number games using spinners and fish cards, taking turns before the shark eats all our fish. We have also been learning to identify numerals 0 to 10 using flash cards and chalk games. The children have practiced counting using their fingers as representation. Some children are now able to use subitizing, which is the ability to recognize a small group of objects without counting.
Physical: The children have been practicing their coordination outdoors, running, jumping and climbing. Indoors we have been developing our hand muscles by spreading jam on toast, applying pressure using glue sticks to create art work.
Communication, language and literacy
This week the children have enjoyed developing their vocabulary and speech whilst using the karaoke machine to sing songs, listening to stories and dressing up to role play with their friends. We have been practicing our literacy skills; describing what we can see in our picture books and developing ideas of what may happen next. The children have enjoyed marking lines and circles using sticks in the sand after listening to the story book: Stanley’s stick.
Moments to remember this week
Remembrance day
The children have been busy painting poppies to collectively make a nursery wreath for our Broadford school display. We have been practicing taking turns to listen to our friends, being kind/helpful and continuing to learn how to cope with our emotions when we are upset.
Remembrance Day will take place on Thursday 11 November 2021, which is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that marked the end of the First World War in 1918.
Bonfire night activities
The children celebrated bonfire night by creating splash artwork with paint and swatters and making smores, using biscuits and marshmallows at the firepit. We learned all about fire safety, but best of all we enjoyed eating our smores outdoors.
