RECEPTION LEARNING - WEEK 3 AUTUMN 2
Key Information
- The Reception Team would welcome any donations of Christmas decorations to help us decorate our classrooms for the children.
- Please find a link to the visual lunch menu, showing images of the food served at lunch times, this is to help your child choose their lunch choice.
Maths
This week, the children have been exploring properties of shapes, with the focus being on four sided shapes: Rectangles and Squares. Children have been recognising these shapes within everyday items inside and outside the classroom.
Take a look at this video to explore the properties of four sided shapes.
How to support your child at home.
Go on a shape hunt round the home or when out and about: at the park or walking to school.
What shapes could they find? How many square shaped items could they find?
Cut some shapes out of coloured paper and encourage your child to make some pictures using the shapes.
Trace around different shaped items in the home - What Square/ Rectangular shaped items could you find to trace around?

Literacy
In literacy this week we have been exploring the story 'Remember Remember the fifth of November'.
It explores the magic and wonder of Bonfire Night through the eyes of Henry the Hedgehog. We have focused on Henry's feeling through the story and we wrote a sentence to say how he felt.

Art
This week's art was linked to Guy Fawkes and Bonfire Night. The children took part in lots of creative tasks, creating firework pictures and hedgehog pictures.
Key Vocabulary: thread, stick, paint, print cut.

Small World Area
Small world play encourages children to be creative and to use their imaginations like no other play. It boosts their confidence and pride when they show off their creations for the first time. It is also an excellent way to build social skills and conflict resolution among younger children.
