Story of the week

Focus activities

This week the children have been learning the life cycle of a seed. We have been listening to stories about growing flowers and vegetables. The children were extremly excited to plant their very own sunflower seeds which they will be taking home in the summer term.

Thanks to the generousity of parents we recieved flower seeds. After planting their own sunflowers they came up with a great idea to plant our donated seeds in our nursery flower bed. The children worked together and took turns to dig and rake the soil, then plant and water the new seeds. The children have been patiently watching for signs the seeds are growing.

Fun with numbers

This week the children have been practicing how to write the number 3. Our ten town focus number of the week is number Thelma three. The children love using their magic pencils to write numbers in the air.

We have continued our number fun using our new seed/ flower knowledge. We have been pretending to plant seeds by matching numbers and matching the number of flowers to the correct number on the flower pot in the maths area.

Outdoor fun

The children have enjoyed the weather this week playing in the garden. We have been discovering shells in the sandpit and listening to see what we can hear.

Everyone had so much fun building and creating fun games with their friends using the Kit Kamp. We made castles, slides, a house for a witch, the floor is lava, lily pads and so much more.

A favourite garden game is hopping, jumping and climbing around the logs. Counting as we go, the children enjoy taking supervised risks whilst practicing their balancing and navigation skills.

With so much of our learning this week envolving mud, many of the children natually took back to the mud kitchen to explore and use mud in different ways during their play. Some children even found a caterpillar, which lead to understanding the life cycle of caterpillars and foods they eat.

Creative play

The children enjoyed expressing their new knowldge of plants and the plant cycle within their play. From mark making to play dough they have been using new vocabulary to discuss their understanding and opinions wit friends and teachers.

We love building at nursery. The children have been busy imaginatively creating using bricks and blocks. Working with friends to bring their play to life using figures and sories to extend their play.

With easter fast approaching the children have been busy making their own Easter cards from friends and family, which look so amazing! The children really concentrated when making the cards and tried extra hard to mark their names independantly.

With the summer term approaching the children have been very keen to mark their own names. We have noticed many of the children marking shapes which represent people  and stories tey enjoy. We have loved listening to the children talk all about their pictures, especially when they mark pictures of family.

We had lots of fun this week, we hope you did too!
