Term: Autumn 2 Date 02.11.15
Welcome back we hope you are all well rested and the children are ready to continue their learning journey. Our topic for this half of a term is Colours and Celebrations.
This week we will be looking at the story of Bonfire Night. This week we will be having our very own Bonfire and will be making 'Fireworks in a bottle' using Vinegar and Bicarbonate of Soda.
Personal, Social and Emotional
- Can play in a group extending their ideas.
- Taking turns - We will continue to teach simple games and leave these for the children to play independently.
Communication and Language
- Understands How and Why questions.
- Speaking in full sentences using describing words after looking at fireworks/our bonfire.
Literacy
- Continuing to learn the last Set 1 sounds.
- Reading simple CVC words after modelling during assisted blending.
- Forming simple words related to our topic e.g. pop, fizz.
Physical Development:
- Continuing to work in small groups with Mr Portway.
- Learning to catch and through a ball.
- Ensuring children develop the correct pencil grip.
Mathematics
- Selecting a simple shape.
- Revise and consolidating knowledge of 2D shapes.
- Making pictures with 2D shapes and learning to describe these.
Understanding of the World
- Looking at how materials change when making 'Fireworks in a bottle'.The children will be encouraged to look at the changes as the bicarbonate mixes with the vinegar and fizzes to the top.
Expressive Arts and Design
- Rolling marbles covered in paint in a tin to make firework pictures.
- Using chalk to create our own firework pictures.
