Superheroes in Training!

The children in Reception embarked on their Superhero training this week. After reading Superkid the children discussed what super powers a superhero might have. They also said that anyone can be a superhero and you might just not know.

"So when your with your friends at school, watch carefully what they do.
You might just find that Superkid is sitting next to you!"

They then set to work training in the different skills. There was a wide range of skills including balance, power, speed, accuracy, precision and flight. Training activities included estimating and completing how many star jumps they could do in 10 seconds. Estimating is a skill the children have been working on in Maths this week, so it was good to put it to use. The children were able to explain that an estimate is a sensible guess.

"I did 12 star jumps. I was really quick." Nicholas

They used water spray bottles to aim accurately for superhero pictures and worked on their teen number recognition.

""Quick squirt Wonder Women she is number 17!" Maggie M.

To develop their precision the children worked in pairs to throw two bean bags into the spiderweb. They had to be careful not to throw the beanbag too far. When they had successfully thrown the two bean bags they worked in pairs using their fingers to calculate the total score.

"Don't throw the beanbag too hard or you will miss." Lidia
"We got 3 and 4. That's 7!" Maysa

To work on their balance the children worked as a team to cross the pit of lava. They demonstrated great reciprocity as they communicated and collaborated to build bridges across the lava.

"Can you put another block there? Look then we can balance the plank on." Daniel

Designing their capes for flight was a very popular activity in the creative area with fantastic personalised cape designs being displayed. These were perfect in the wind outside! What a busy few days in Superhero in School!
