Reception Newsletter 12.11.18

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week was a very busy one! The children loved learning about Diwali and Bonfire Night. They made some fabulous firework pictures and crafts. The bonfire was enjoyed by all and there definitely were a few sticky faces and smokey smelling children on Thursday. We hope you saw our video of the bonfire on Facebook and the blog last week. We were also busy making poppies for our school display, marking 100 years since World War 1. I think you will agree the school looked great on Friday and was a lovely display of remembrance.

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to the Phonics Stay & Learn on Thursday, the turnout was fantastic. We hope you enjoyed the session and found it useful.

This week we will be reading Funnybones. We will be naming and trying to label parts of the body as well as looking at real animal bones. We also will be baking biscuits in preparation for Children in Need on Friday.


Communication and Language
The children will be joining in with key refrains an rhyme within the story. They will also be discussing where they would go on an adventure.

Physical Development
The children will need their fine motor skills as we bake biscuits. Carefully measuring the ingredients, stirring, kneading and rolling. Baking and following the recipe will also allow the children to apply their maths skills.

Maths
This week we will be looking at the key vocabulary ‘same’ and ‘different’. We will be comparing groups of objects as well as discussing which group has ‘more’ or ‘less’. The children will also look at splitting a group of objects in different ways but realising the total is always the same.

Literacy
We will be labelling parts of the body using our phonics knowledege.

Understanding the World
We have a variety of bones and skulls that the children will be able to observe, discuss and make their own representations of.


Dates for your diary
Children in Need: Friday 16th November
Your child can come to school wearing yellow or spots. If they would like to dress up we are asking for a donation of £1 per family to go towards Children in Need. There will also be a Teddy Bear’s Picnic in the afternoon and you may like your child to bring in some change (20-50p) to buy a biscuit or cake. There will be lots of other fun activities happening too, please see the Children in Need letter.

EYFS Nativity: Tuesday 11th December 10.30am or 2.00pm

Bedtime Stories: Friday 7th December 5-6pm
Come and join us in the classroom for Christmas bedtime stories, hot chocolate and cookies. Pajamas encouraged!
