This week the children have been learning about shapes and patterns and this has been linked to our Diwali topic unit and making Rangoli patterns. The Reception children enjoyed using the iPads to take photos of the different shapes they could find in the environment and naming the shapes and their properties. Everyone showed great reciprocity skills, as the children took turns taking photos of the shapes they could find. We discussed the different properties of the shapes and how we could identify the difference between a rectangle and square. In addition we spoke about the difference between 2D and 3D shapes and shapes which are ‘flat’ and shapes which are ‘fat’.
Amari: “ I’ve found a circle.”
Aniah-Mai: “ There’s four rectangles in the door.”
