Reception Learning- Week 2 - Summer 2

        RECEPTION LEARNING - SUMMER 2 WEEK 2

Maths

In maths this week we have be learning sharing and grouping. The children learnt that when we share equally everybody gets the same amount but when we don’t share equally people get different amounts. We thought about if someone got more cake than them at a party if it would be fair or not. The children said it wouldn't be fair and they would not be happy! We shared strawberries, cupcakes and apples equally using the interactive whiteboard. We also shared bananas equally with Monkeys, Fish equally with Whales and insects equally with leaves.

This weeks activity involved sharing an equal amount of counters onto a Gingerbread man. The children were given a certain amount of counters and shared them equally. Some children noticed that it would not be equal if one Gingerbread man hand more than another. They showed that they are sharing experts! It was great to see them using their mathematical thinking to ensure each Gingerbread man was the same.

Vrisha- "6 for both"
Gabia- "I gave them both 3"

Jessica- “ They both have 5 each”
Theo “There’s 3 and 3”

Literacy

This week we continued reading Handa's Surprise.  Handa is a young girl who lives in a village in Kenya. She decides to take seven different fruits in a basket to her friend Akeyo who lives in a nearby village. Handa walks to Akeyo's village with the basket of fruit balanced on her head. On her journey, each fruit is taken by a different animal until no fruit is left. As she is nearing Akeyo's village, a goat breaks free from the post it is tied to and heads straight towards a tangerine tree which Handa is walking under. The goat headbutts the tree causing tangerines to fall into Handa's basket. When Handa reaches Akeyo's village, she has a shock to see tangerines in her basket. Akeyo is very happy as tangerines are her favourite fruit.

Our literacy activity involved us thinking about if we were Handa. We spoke about walking with a basket on your head and how tricky it must be. The children wrote about what fruits they would take their friends in their basket if they were to do what Handa did. We have seen some fantastic independent writing!

Roza- "In my basket I have mangoes"
Taylor-" In my basket there is pineapple, its yellow"

Zarrar- " I'm giving Olaf pineapple and apple"
Kai- " I've got banana and apple in my basket"
