This weeks focus topic:

This week the children have enjoyed our topic: All about Vets! We have been learning what they do and who they help. The children have had lots of fun caring for animals, role playing in the vet clinic and discussing animals and where they live.

Our math focus this week has been on Ten Towns Tommy Two, learning all about the number 2 and how to correctly write the number 2 formation.

 This week we had fun:

We had lots of fun learning through play. The children created role play games including restaurants: pretending to order food from a menu, whilst their friends pretended to be the chef.  

The children were creative in the water area, investigating how to create more bubbles in the water tray. Testing a variety of objects, they finally found the hand whisk created the most bubbles. We had so much fun playing in the bubbles and developing our investigative play.

This week in the playdough area, the children had fun learning about the plant mint. We discussed how plants make food and grow outdoors. The children shared their ideas and likes about different foods and how we grow when we eat.

Following one child's request to make a kite, all the children decided to make kites at the art table with support from their teachers. The children tested their kites in the garden, running around trying to make them fly.

 

We discovered we can be creative with any materials. The children had an idea to use mud in the art area. By adding water the mud was similar to paint, which they then used to create one of a kind art work. 

This week the children have been working on their fine motor skills, developing their pencil grips, pencil pressure and letter formation. We had fun helping the lost bird find their way home to their mum by marking the path on the paper. We then wrote our names on our work so everyone will know who it belongs to. We are so smart in nursery.

This week the children have had lots of fun out in the garden. We creatively made dens and filled them with blankets, cushions, book and bears. We practised our gross motor movements and ball skills using crates and shooting the ball through the basketball net. We danced, hula-hooped, ran, jumped, rolled and rode bikes. We even had time to make sand castles.

Marvellous Maths in Reception

This week in reception, the children have been learning to subtract. We learnt different ways to say subtract such as minus and take away. The children used real objects to see how the quantity of a group can be changed by taking items away. 

We carried on with the first, next, now structure to support the understanding of taking away. The children were encouraged to count out numbers at the start, take away a certain amount and count the remaining items in the group.

We represented number stories using number tracks, ten frames and numicon. 

E.g. First there were 10 people on the bus. 

Then 2 people got off the bus. 

Now there are 8 people on the bus.

Reception Care For Caterpillars

Reception Care For Caterpillars

What an exciting half term we have had in Reception! As part of our 'growing and changing' topic, we have been caring for caterpillars.

When the caterpillars first arrived, we took great pleasure in watching them eat and grow as they got bigger and bigger. After reading 'The Hungry Caterpillar' we knew how hungry caterpillars can get!

The next fascinating stage of the life cycle was watching the caterpillars make cocoons. Some changed overnight and we were surprised to find them in the morning but we were lucky enough to see some changing right before our eyes! We read 'Tadpoles Promise' and 'The Teeny Weeny Tadpole' which helped us to compare the lifecycle of a frog to the lifecycle of a butterfly, considering the changes that happen over time.

Finally, the real fun began as the cocoons opened and the beautiful butterflies emerged. We enjoyed feeding them sugar water and fruit and had lots of discussions around what we should do next.

After reading 'Bog Baby', we discussed how it was important to let the butterflies go. Although some of us were sad at first, we understood that it wouldn't be fair to keep butterflies inside forever! After a few days of feeding and watching them as their wings dried, it was time to take them outside and release them.

Nursery Certificates- 26.05.23

 Each week, 2 children in Nursery will receive an E for Excellence certificate in recognition of their hard work. 

A massive congratulations to Violet , who has been awarded the E for Excellence for her excellent effort when practising writing her name. Violet was working on her grip and control, tracing over patterns and letters and then wrote her name. Super job, Violet. 

A huge well done to Azlan, who has been awarded the E for Excellence for his roleplay in the home corner. Azlan set up a restaurant with his friends, took orders, 'cooked' and served it up. It was great to see his fabulous imagination in action!

Dear Parents and carers,

As part of our topic 'growing and changing' we have been planting vegetables. After seeing the engagement from the children in caring for their plants, we are keen to continue our planting into the second half of the summer term and would love a variety of plants to add to our outdoor area. 

If you are sorting gardens and sheds during the half term (or anytime) and find yourself with plants, seeds, bulbs etc spare, we would greatly appreciate any donations. Unwanted garden tools such as spades and forks or resources such as soil or plant support sticks would also be gratefully received.

Please give any donations to your child's class teacher.

Apricot: Danni - Ella has a positive attitude towards her learning. Danni- Ella has been working hard in Literacy and Math, making contributions in discussions and starting to proofread her work

Beech: Theo for his brilliant Maths work this week. We have been learning all about time and Theo has been working super hard to learn o’clock and half past. Well done Theo!

Walnut: Chirag has earned this award for his brilliant effort recognising o’clock and half past on an analogue clock. Chirag used his knowledge of telling the time to solve reasoning problems. Super job!
