Nursery Learning - Week of 1st May 2023

Nursery Learning - Week of 1st May 2023

Next week we are 'junk modelling' in the art area. If you have any interesting rubbish we would love the children to bring it in so they can transform it into their own creations. This could include, plastic bottles, chocolate boxes, cereal boxes, egg boxes.

This week the children have enjoyed making sugar free Mint Lemonade. We cut leaves from the mint plant in the nursery, discussing how plants are grown, taste and smell. The children used safety knives to cut their lemons. The children really enjoyed tasting the Mint lemonade and discussed making some at home.

This week we had a special visitor in the nursery, a Dentist. The children interacted with the dentist regarding how to maintain healthy teeth. Including healthy foods, when to brush your teeth and how long for. The children were very engaged discussing their teeth brushing routines at home and how they keep their teeth healthy.

"I brush my teeth at home, in the morning and when I go to bed. I use toothpaste" said Oscar talking to the dentist.

After the special dentist visit the children have had a lot of fun role playing games using dress up and helping patients.

Amelia helped her teacher. "Miss St Louis you're sick, you had too much sweets, now I need to take your teeth out. You need an injection".

The children have really dived in to learning all about teeth. We have been brushing the germs away, creating teeth artwork, using play dough and maths games to engage and support the children's interest, knowledge and understanding of the importance of healthy teeth.

Archie said "I brush my teeth with red toothpaste, that's why I'm colouring mine in" as he used red pencil to mark the teeth on his picture.

The children have been enjoying the sunshine in the garden, taking the opportunity to explore using water play. They especially liked using buckets, watering cans and jugs to pour and fill objects in the water tray using funnels.

"I help you, here you go" said Ayo helping her peer at the water tray.

In the garden the children have been practising taking turns using the kit kamp blocks. The children had a great idea to use the kit kamp blocks to make a tunnel. The children all worked together to help create the tunnel. Once they had completed the tunnel, the children took turns using different methods to move through the tunnel. The children had lots of fun.

Luna: "I have an idea... let's make a tunnel"
Akela: "yeah! that's a great idea, I can help"
Nursery peers "we can help too!"
