Mathematical Fun in the afternoon

The Nursery children had great fun developing Mathematical skills, in particular place value. They tapped their stick to determine each number. They also developed personal and social skills to such as turn taking and listening skills.

More of the Big Boat Race, the afternoon children ...

The children have worked hard this week to build their boats for the Big Boat Race. They have developed their Scientific Investigative skills whilst considering the structure and features of their boats in order for them to float and move quickly. They have also developed Personal and Social Skills by following instructions, sharing resources and working collaboratively. Well done children!

Counting fun!

The Nursery children are beginning to realise that not only objects, but anything can be counted by tapping sticks and saying the number names as we tap. We are fantastic counters. We counted to 20 forwards and backwards and practised our positional language putting the sticks in front of us, behind and next to us.

EYFS enjoys Sports Relief events

Great fun was had by all in Early Years on Friday. The children and staff enjoyed taking part in the sponsored run to raise money for Sports Relief. After a snack and a drink our very excited children got to throw sponges at Mr Clark and Mr Drakes. PE lessons with Mr Clark have certainly paid off as the children's throwing ability certainly shone through, making sure that Mr Clark and Mr Drakes got soaked.

Messages.
Thank you to all of the parents who sent in numbers they had cut out with their children, we still need some more to create our collage. In relation to the children’s mathematical development we would like to make a display of numbers, from the environment. Therefore we would appreciate it if you could assist your child in looking for numbers in old catalogues, magazines and packets and bring them in to school.

We have had a number of children bringing in toys from home. We would appreciate it if you could encourage them not to do so. We already have plenty of toys and activities to keep the children engaged and busy. These toys often get lost, broken or cause disagreements between the children.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind Regards

How does it feel?

Nursery and Reception children explored different textures using their feet. We took our shoes and socks off and walked through stones, bark, pasta, rice, and other materials. Children discovered that the materials feel different than when they touch them with their hands. A variety of adjectives were use to describe the materials. Squidgy, sharp, hard, rough, tiny, piercing.

Nursery children enjoy science week.

The outdoor area had a variety of science activities for children to explore this week. We are investigating who can blow the biggest bubble. Can we make coloured bubbles? Can we make square bubbles? How many bubbles can we blow ?

The Big Pedal Is Over!

Enormous congratulations and thank you to everyone who cycled or scooted to school over the past two weeks.

I am pleased to announce that within the Greater London area we placed 61st out of 121. This includes schools that are within London and Essex, and as far afield as Surrey, Hertfordshire and Middlesex.

Nationally Broadford Primary School came 602nd out of a massive 1056 schools.

Over the two weeks 23% of our pupils made 951 journeys on bicycles and scooters.

Well done to everyone for choosing a more sustainable mode of travel to school and reducing your carbon footprint.

You should all feel very proud of yourself.

It always seems impossible until it is done.

Super writers in Reception

Our story of the week, 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' combined with the arrival of our tiny caterpillars has inspired the reception children to write about the life cycle of a butterfly.

The Big Pedal 2014

A massive well done to everyone who contributed to making 1 million journeys to school during this year's Big Pedal. All of the journeys have now been logged and are still being counted up! Results will be available after 3.30pm today.

This is a new record, so every school, pupil, parent and staff member should be really proud.

Look out for Broadford’s results tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who took part.
