Term: Spring 2 Date 24.03.14

This week we will continue with our topic ‘Growing and Changing’ and our story, ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.
Your child will be taking part in the following activities within the seven areas of development (although the skills remain the same, the activities may differ depending on the children’s interests):


Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Continuing to care for our caterpillars, which are just about to turn into chrysalises.
Discussing Mothers’ Day and why our Mums are so special. 

Communication and Language 
All the children have a set reading day. Please make sure their book is in school at least for their reading day. We praise the children who regularly read at home to an adult and have a reward system in place. Many children have already received their bronze award.
Sharing the story of, ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and answering, who, what why and how questions. 

Physical
The children will be continuing to go out in small groups with Mr Clark. All children need a PE kit in school.
Fine manipulatives skills set up daily to improve children’s pencil control.

Literacy
Writing our names encouraging correct letter formation.
We will be continuing our daily Read, Write Inc. sessions.
Writing shopping lists for the very hungry caterpillar using our phonic knowledge.

Maths
Playing number bingo.
Addition calculations
Ensuring accurate number formation
Looking at symmetry.

Understanding of the World
Developing an understanding of lifecycles. Looking closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change. Discussing our caterpillars and the changes taking place. Introducing metamorphosis.
Science theatre company workshop.

Expressive Arts and Design 
Enjoying our daily dance warm up to the ‘5 a day’ fitness programme.
Taking part in a music scheme – Music express – linking music with stories.
Role play – Veterinary Surgery
Mothers’ Day arts and crafts.

On Thursday 3rd April, we will be walking down to Harold Hill library to take part in a library session. Fern will be leaving at approx. 9.50 and Aspen at approx. 1.35. If any parents would like to walk with us, please give your name to either Miss Morris or Mrs Stanley. If we get too many offers then we will pull names out of a hat.


Homework:
Please continue to read daily with your child and sign their reading record. When your child brings home their words, please practise them as this supports their learning in school.

Many thanks to the children and parents who regularly bring in work from home that the children have done at home – it is always lovely to see children following up their learning at home.
