Term: Spring 2 Date 31.03.14

We will continue with the ‘Dinosaur’ topic this week. After the Easter break we will move on to the topic of ‘People Who Help Us’. We hope to have visits from various people who work in the community. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The story this week will be ‘Stomp, Chomp, Big Roars’ and the song will be the ‘Dinosaur Dive’.

Personal, Social and Emotional
Keeps play going by responding to what others are saying and doing.
Growing ability to distract self when upset, e.g. by engaging in a new play activity.
Welcomes and values praise for what they have done.

Communication and Language
Builds up vocabulary that builds up the breadth of their experience.
Beginning to understand ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions.
Uses vocabulary focussed on objects that are important to them.

Physical Development:
Uses three finger tripod grip.
Observes effects of activity on their bodies.
Runs safely on whole foot

Mathematics
Sometimes matches numeral and quantity correctly.
Uses some language of quantities such as more and a lot.
Knows that a group of things changes in quantity when something is added or taken away.

Understanding of the World
Has a sense of immediate family and friends.
Knows and talks about significant events.
Talk about why things happen and how things work.

Expressive Arts and Design
Beginning to be interested in and describe the texture of things.
Imitates movement and taps out simple repeated patters.
Beginning to use representation to communicate, e.g. drawing a line and saying 'That's me. 

Literacy
Listens to stories with increasing attention and recall.
Suggests how a story might end.
Distinguishes between the different marks they make.
 
Messages.
We will be going on a visit to the Library on Thursday this week. We are very excited about the visit. Jo the librarian will be reading the children stories and they will also take part in some story related activities and get an opportunity to peruse the books on offer.

We hope you have a wonderful Easter break and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 22nd April. On this day we have a visit from the ‘Bug Man’ booked so we all have something exciting to look forward to on our return to school.
