Nursery: Home Learning, 18/12/2020
Dear Parents and Carers,
Today we have some activities for your child whilst at home. These will also be shared with you on Evidence Me Parent Share.
Story: Santa is coming to London! Read by the YouTube account 'Give us a Story'
Here is the link.
Activity: Create a memory book.
Whilst learning is taking place at home, a memory book may be a nice way to reflect on what life is like at this time and something to look back in years to come.
Here is an example of what you might include in your memory book, it is also printable.
Activity: Dancing!
Mrs Light led a dance to Oops Upside your head, try this activity at home and send us your videos in via Evidence Me. This is a great gross motor activity developing the core (and it is fun). Here is a link to the routine if you are not familiar with the song. A video of the children taking part in nursery is on Evidence me.
What other songs can you dance to?
Access e-books and audio books for free through this link. All you need is your library card or your phone number to sign in: https://llc.overdrive.com/library/youth/
The YouTube account, Give us a Story, has many more books to access and listen to for free.
Please upload any photos or videos of your child joining in with the activities using Evidence Me. You will need to tag your child in it for us to view.
Many of you have understandably chosen not to send your children in this week with the run up to the Christmas Holidays. Havering have confirmed that these absences will be authorised due to the exceptional circumstances as a bubble closure would mean self-isolating (staying at home without mixing) across Christmas.
We wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year! See you in 2021, when nursery reopens at usual timings on Monday 4th January. We will also be welcoming new children into the nursery on this date!
Kind regards,
The Nursery Team

Reception: Bedtime for Monsters
Bedtime for Monsters.
This week in Reception we have been reading the story, Bedtime for Monsters, in our topic sessions. In the story, the monster travels through different habitats (swamps, snowy mountains and urban areas). We have been learning about these different habitats and the animals which live in them. The children enjoyed making monster feet in the creative areas too! Using their phonic knowledge, the children have been reading simple sentences about monsters. After they were able to write their own descriptive sentences using the ‘red’ words, he and she.
Red words are what we call words which are tricky and can’t be read using Fred talk. This week we have sent some red words home for the children, they are common irregular words that the children will learn to read on sight.
Jorgie: I can run.
Bruno: My monster is smelly.
Mya: My monster is green.
Joseph: My monster has stripes.
Amaira: My monster has funny eyes.
Bella: Look, I wrote my monster is pink.

Dear Parents and Carers,
Many of you have chosen not to send your children in this week with the run up to the Chirstmas Holidays. Havering have confirmed that these absenses will be authorised due to the exceptional circumstances. Today we have some activities for your child whilst at home. These will also be shared with you on Evidence Me Parent Share.
Story: Brown Bear Brown Bear, read by Mrs Ngenge
Activity: Make a Banana Loaf
Knives do not have to be very sharp to cut through bananas so this is a great way to develop cutting skills. Try and encourage the children to hold with one hand and cut with the other ensuring the knife is the right way round!
You can follow this recipe if you have the ingredients:
- Preheat the oven to 160 C.
- Let the children cut and mash bananas!
- Mix together bananas, 200g caster sugar, 1 egg, 60g melted butter in a bowl. Add 200g flour (with one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda mixed in). Stir one teaspoon of salt in.
- Add to a loaf tin and cook for roughly an hour.
Maths Activity: Matching quantity to numeral
Matching quantity to numeral is an important step in children's mathematical development. This is a fun way to check and support accurate counting. This could also be adapted to be played inside using items inside your house. Encourage the children to use their fingers to count the items and check the have the same amount as the number.

Thank you for your continued support throughout this academic term. This year has been very strange for all of us and your children are a credit to you all. We love seeing all of the work our children have been completing at home. Thank you for sharing via email and parent postcards.
This week we will be sharing the story ‘ Stickman’ by Julia Donaldson.
