Learning Theme: People Who Help Us (Police Visit)
“I’ve ticked off one of my bucket list!” said Mrs light.
“Mrs Ellender, what great fun we had today! We hope the children enjoyed it as much as we did. Thank you to all the school staff, including the school kitchen; the lunch was really good! What a lovely school!” said PCSO Jackie.

Book of the week
The children have enjoyed a selection of stories linked to People who Help Us including this fiction book:
Police officer
Nursery rhyme of the week
This week the children learnt ‘Miss Polly Had a Dolly’.
Here are the words:
Miss Polly had a dolly
Who was sick, sick, sick
So she called for the doctor
To come quick, quick, quick
The doctor came
With his bag and his hat
And he knocked on the door
With a rat-a-tat-tat.
He looked at the dolly
And he shook his head,
And he said ‘Miss Polly,
Put her straight to bed.’
He wrote on the paper
For a pill, pill, pill
‘I’ll be back in the morning
For the bill, bill, bill.’
Learning Through Play
This week’s learning has involved:
Practicing ‘Thelma Three’
Ordering numbers and finding their cardinal value
Speaking to and playing with the police officers
Learning how things work ie police cars and motorbikes (individual photos shared via evidence me)
Exploring a new digging zone (photo from last Friday)
Ten Town Input
As part of their number understanding learning, the children were introduced to ‘Thelma Three’ this week. They learnt:
How to form the digit
How to show the number on their fingers
More or less than the number
What the number represents in objects
You may also like to watch Numberblocks number 3.
Phonic Input
The focus for this week was around rhyming sounds, the children:
Learned the silly soup rhyme
Identified rhyming words
I’m making lots of silly soup
I’m making soup that’s silly
I’m going to cook it in the fridge
To make it nice and chilly
In goes... a rat... a cat... a mat…a dog?
Here are two videos that you can watch at home to play the game:

Story: Vet by People Who Help Us
The children enjoyed talking about the pictures and named the animals. They pretended being the vet and helped some toy animals get better.
Maths: The children enjoyed taking part in Ten Town activities and challenges. This week they learnt numeral 3 with the phrase “Thelma Three”. They also had to practice counting from 0 to 5 with 1 to 1 correspondence. The group also spoke about the properties of 2D shapes including: a square and circle which they could identify well.
Art and Design: The focus this week was to design a ‘special box’ which they will use later in their circle time. They were very enthusiastic whilst decorating the box with different materials.
Snack time: At snack time the children had the opportunity to make their own toast. They used their fine motor skills effectively in order to spread the butter and jam using a knife. When they finished they washed and dried their plates.
Preparing for Reception
Each week we will include a tip to help prepare your child for reception; although it seems a long way off the summer term will shortly pass and September will be here before we know it!
Tip of the week:
This week the focus is on practicing with your child to do up and undo buttons. Buttons are a key feature on uniform and practicing with your child to use them is a fantastic way to develop their fine motor skills; which are needed for early writing.
Focus child Meetings
Each week children will be chosen to be observed by their keyworker. Emails will be sent home to inform parents of the upcoming parent meeting taking place the following week, either in person or via telephone. Parents will have an opportunity to complete a form asking questions and sharing concerns they may have for the key worker to answer during the parent meeting. This form will be sent via email. Please check your emails weekly for school communications and evidence me parents share from your children's teachers. Parents are welcome to upload pictures and videos of their children at home.
