          Maths

In maths, we have been learning about subtracting. When we subtract, the number of things in the group reduces or becomes less. The children have answer questions about taking away, subtracted using a number line, subtracted using ten frames and used a range of different objects to take away.

Our activity this week was to use Numicon to subtract a chosen amount. The kids used blocks, Numicon and their hands for support when subtracting from their number. They also wrote their number sentence. It was fantastic to see the children using their mathematical brains.

Key Vocabulary: take away, subtraction, less

Literacy

This week, we started reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The Vey Hungry Caterpillar is a story about a small caterpillar who emerges from an egg and begins eating everything in sight. After six days of eating fruits, sweets, and “junk” food, he gets a stomach ache. On the seventh day, the caterpillar eats a “nice leaf” and feels much better. The now big, fat and not-hungry Caterpillar builds a cocoon around himself and finally emerges as a beautiful Butterfly. We learnt a song about the life cycle of a Butterfly.
