Nursery: Fireworks 1.11.22-4.11.22

Fireworks in Nursery

This week the children have been learning about Bonfire Night and how to keep safe around fireworks.

We have enjoyed learning songs about fireworks. You may want to practice them at home

As adults, writing comes easily and without much thought, for children however, writing is a whole new skill requiring time, practice and encouragement. The skill of writing begins with mark making. It is easy to interpret different lines and circles children create on paper as mere ‘scribbles’, but actually, children are mark making, the first step towards writing.
We have practising making marks by making lines and patterns with paintbrushes and glitter that represent firework movements.

Some of the children used collage resources to create their own bonfire, they discussed the colours they would need to create a representation of a bonfire.

The children also practised their scissor control and cutting skills while making their bonfires. Scissor skill activities such as snipping paper, cutting and sticking activities and exploring cutting a variety of materials are vital. They provide opportunities for improving their fine motor skills as well as developing their muscles and precision. They help their physical movements to become refined and purposeful.

Children enjoy cutting pictures from catalogues, leaflets and magazines, If you have child friendly scissors at home you might want to practise cutting at home, remembering that learning to use scissors should always be a supervised activity.

Some of the children manipulated the playdough to make representations of fireworks.

Here are some of the things the Nursery children have said about fireworks this week.

If you want to refresh your child's memory about keeping safe around fireworks, this Fireman Sam video has been helpful.
