Reception know the way to school

Reception know the way to school.

Another lovely week of learning in Reception exploring the book 'The Way to School'. We have enjoyed looking at photos of the local area and we have discussed the different landmarks that the children may see on their way to school.  They then wrote about their journey to school and what they see on the way. They created a timeline of the landmarks they see on their route to school.

For most of our children, the journey to school involves a short walk or car ride, however in other parts of the works some children travel through disaster zones, cross rapids, climb mountains and manoeuvre on zip lines daily just to get to school. Some children even carry their desks to school.

The children have pretended to be school teachers and the driver of the school bus during their role play. They have used the 2paint programme on the computers to draw pictures of their school and classroom.

At the end of the week we discussed all the learning we can do whilst on our way to school. From recognising the numbers on the front doors of people's homes. To learning the names of the types of flowers and trees that we pass. To reading the names of roads and buildings and learning how to safely cross the road. So much fun and learning!

What have you seen on your journey to school this week?

Ayla: I love walking to school.

Callissya: I walk with mummy, Nevaeh, Alariah!

Adam: Look at the wheels on my car.
