Reception Learning: Handa's Surprise

 Handa's Surprise

We have had another wonderful week of learning in Reception.  We have enjoyed listening to the lovely story 'Handa's Surprise'. The story is set in a village of the Luo Tribe in South-West Kenya and is about a girl, Handa, who wants to surprise her friend Akeyo, with seven delicious fruits. As part of our learning this week, we have explored the country of Kenya and looked at where all the fruits featured in the story come from. We had a yummy fruit tasting afternoon and then created a class pictogram to record which fruits were our favourites.  We enjoyed creating some animal fact files on animals featured within the story and researching facts about the animals we chose.  We looked at the differences and similarities between Harold Hill and Kenya. As always, we have shown great reciprocity skills during our learning time, showing that we can collaborate effectively, listen to others and imitate great ideas.

Fire; I love the part where the animals eat the fruit!

Ryan; Monkeys can swing through trees, there is a monkey in the book!

Bella;  I like eating fruit, it makes me healthy
Amaira; I like Mango fruit the most.
Amari: “I love apples and mangoes.”

Aryaan: “My favourite fruit was mango.”
