The Gruffalo takes a stroll through Reception!

The Gruffalo

A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood.
A fox saw the mouse and the mouse looked good.
"Where are you going to, little brown mouse?
Come and have lunch in my underground house."
"It's terribly kind of you, Fox, but no -
I'm going to have lunch with a Gruffalo."

We have had a fantastic week exploring the story; The Gruffalo. On Monday, we returned from lunch to find lots of footprints on our carpet and classroom floors. We were very intrigued as to how they had appeared there and began to investigate them. We spoke to our talk partners to discuss the clues left and think about what it could be.  The children were super excited to discover that it was the Gruffalo that had passed through reception.

Harry: "I really like the mouse."
Lily: "The Gruffalo is my favourite character."
Chloe: "My monster has two legs."

The children have really enjoyed creating wanted posters to find the Gruffalo, they used some lovely descriptive language to describe what he looked like and drew some amazing drawings.  You may have seen them displayed in our classroom windows this week.   In the construction area, the children used the resources to build the Gruffalo's cave and in the malleable area they used clay and dough to create a Gruffalo model.

Thomas: “He is dangerous.”
Nikita: “ He has orange eyes.”
Emmalee: “ He looks like a monster.”

Ite: 'My monster is blue'
Joseph: 'I think it's the Gruffalo, he has sharp claws'
Adam: 'The Gruffalo is big and brown, he has huge orange eyes'
