Fabulous Fireworks in Reception

This week in Reception, we have been learning about Guy Fawkes and the reason why we celebrate Bonfire Night. On the 5th November every year, the effigy of Guy Fawkes is still burned on bonfires across England in recognition of his part in the failed 'Gunpowder Plot' of 1605. As part of our learning, we have been focusing on onomatopoeic sounds such as pop, whizz,  buzz, boom, clap, fizz, puff, swish, zoom and zap.

Working together in pairs, we completed a firework experiment to help create onomatopoeic sounds, following instructions and observing the final reaction - the firework! Describing our observations, what happened when vinegar was added to the ingredients, explaining how the firework was made and thinking about how we could change the experiment and why.

In Aspen class, excitedly Charlie predicted what might happen when the vinegar was added " It's going to go up to the top, come up and going over." He described what would happen to the mixture.

Amelia added more ingredients and described the changes " Add more vinegar and it explodes more."

Neo predicted that the cup would blast off with the ingredients inside, " I think it's going to blast off."

Elsie-Rose thought that the ingredients looked like lava, "It looks like lava."
