The Amazing Elephant Parade

Another super week in Reception.  As you are aware this weeks key text has been 'Elmer'.  This is a lovely story about a very colourful happy elephant who is different to the rest of the herd.  Although he has a moment of self doubt, he  however later realises that it is okay to be different and that's why his friends love him so much!  This text has been a great tool to explore various areas of the curriculum.

We have had circle times exploring and celebrating differences.  We have also had various art based activities including colour mixing using the primary colours, during which the children predicted and explored which colours could be made.

Furthermore the children have also been encouraged to write invitations focussing on initial sounds.  They expressed an interest in writing invitations, inviting others to the elephant parade which took place on Friday afternoon.  Daisy particular enjoyed the invitation writing and demonstrated great Knowledge and understanding skills when she associated the process with a significant event in her own experience.

" I gave my friends invitations to my party".

The children also demonstrated reciprocity when they helped one another make masks and then guided each other around in the  parade.
