Reception Newsletter 14.11.16

Term: Autumn 2                      Date: 14.11.16

Dear Parents,

       The children have had great fun over the last two weeks exploring the festival of diwali and Guy Fawkes Night, we hope you had a chance to look at the blog.  We will be reading Elmer the Elephant this week and carrying out many various related activities.

      We have finished teaching all of the sounds now, thank you to all of the parents who attended the Read Write Inc Workshop on Friday.  If you were unable to attend please see a member of staff for a copy of the handout and you can also watch videos on the RWI website.

     Personal, Social and Emotional:
     Can describe self in positive terms and talk about abilities
     To take turns and share with their peers.
      Begins to accept the needs of others and can take turns and share resources, sometimes with support from others.
                  
Communication and Language:
Questions why things happen and gives explanations.
Talks about why things happen and how things work
Uses talk to connect ideas, explain what is happening and anticipate what might happen next, recall and relive past experiences

Physical Development:
Shows increasing control over an object in pushing, patting, throwing, catching or kicking it.
Negotiates space successfully when playing racing and chasing games with other children,     adjusting speed or changing direction to avoid obstacles.
Experiments with different ways of moving.
      
Literacy:
      Listens to stories with increasing attention and recall.
      Joins in with repeated refrains and anticipates key events and phrases in rhymes and stories.
      Beginning to be aware of the way stories are structured.
             
Mathematics:
Selects the correct numeral to represent 1 to 5, then 1 to 10 objects
Counts actions or objects which cannot be moved
Counts out up to six objects from a larger group.




Understanding the World:
Can talk about some of the things they have observed
Remembers and talks about significant events in their own experience.
Recognises and describes special times or events for family or friends.

Expressive Art and Design:
Explores colours and how colours can be changed
Explores what happens when they mix colours
Uses various construction materials.
      
        Messages.
       Learning Challenge
      Each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children's learning can be extended at home.
      The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, famous person,  illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class.
