Painting with Textures

In Nursery today the children have been adding some kitchen ingredients into paint for free exploration and to see what effect each would have on the texture created. Into some bowls we collected salt, flour, oats and white glue. They were encouraged to mix and stir the resources available and compare the different textures.
The children had lots of fun creating their pictures and were fascinated to see the changes as they dried, with the glue-paint becoming shiny and hard, the salt paint glistening and the flour paint becoming thick and rough. Promoting language in all areas is very important at this age and the activity prompted the children to use some fantastic descriptive language.

"Look the salt one is all bubbly, i'm going to make it shiny with glitter now!" Gracie-Ann
"I don't like this because it's all stuck to my brush! I'm just using this salt one now." Ava
