Celebrating Eid

The children really enjoyed celebrating Eid on Friday! Some children chose to create paper chains with Mrs Ahmed (midday assistant) and decorated their own prayer mats matching colours and shapes. Lots of children dressed up in colourful clothes, here are a few photos.

Finger Gym: Arts & Crafts and Handwriting

The children have been creating minibeasts in the crafting area which have decorated our classroom. They have coloured them in, challenged themselves to cut them out and made puppets with them also. Some have added their minibeast to the art area working wall too! The children have also started learning to write their names with the correct letter formations.

Take a moment to look at how your child holds a pencil at home. Below are images of the different pen grips. As your child’s fine motor skills develop they will have more strength to hold a pencil correctly. It is important to ensure gross motor skills are developed first, ie large movements (pulling, pushing, climbing, vertical painting and drawing).

Understanding of the World

As part of our minibeasts theme, the nursery have some tiny pets! We now have a wormery and caterpillars for the children to observe and ask questions around. It has brought out lots of new vocabulary.

Noah A. said, The caterpillars are spikey!

Danni-ella said,I think the caterpillars are sleepy; they will turn into butterflies.”

Physical Development

Many of the children have been interested to challenge themselves this week in using the hula hoop, including Tommy who really impressed us with his control and ability to use the hoop in this way; well done Tommy! Zarrar also challenged himself to have a go with the Hula Hoop- well done!

SHAPE Activity (Wellbeing Curriculum)

Last week Mrs Luca focussed on the Environment aspect of our wellbeing curriculum. She got the children to help her plant seeds, water them and create decorations for our allotments to go with the minibeast theme.

This week the children focussed on the Heart aspect and we filmed the children singing nursery rhymes; look out for the videos in next week’s blog.

Other Information

You may be aware of some building work that is taking place in the outdoor area for nursery currently. Next week we expect the building work to continue so it may be that afternoon collections are at the main entrance for safety reasons. The construction work is to develop a water play area in which the children can transport water from different heights and directions, including a magnetic water wall! We will be sure to post photos so that you can see as soon as it is done! Here is the latest picture of the developments:

Upcoming dates:

Wednesday 19th May: World Book Day Dress Up

Weeks 5 and 6 of this term will be focussing on Transport including people who help us.

Friday 28th May: School Inset Day (nursery closed to children)
