Weekly Newsletter - Friday 14th May, 2021

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

End of Key Stage Statutory Assessments

As we know the government cancelled the statutory assessments for year 2 and 6 this year as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Year 6 pupils should have sat their tests this week but were not required to do so. The teachers will still be carrying out assessments of the pupils' learning and attainment so that the pupils receive the recognition that they deserve after all of their hard work. Parents and carers will receive this information along with their summer term report on Friday 16th July.

Charity Donations
Many of you will be aware that over the past year we have had pupils and families in our school community who are battling and coming to terms with the effects of Cancer. Throughout this summer term, as a school we would like to participate in events to raise awareness and money for a charity who particularly work with and support children who have been affected by Cancer. Our chosen charity is Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund. We are also planning on holding a sponsored event later in the term.
Our non-uniform events last Friday for Rock out maths and today for Eid have raised over £100 to kick start our fundraising for LCCF. Look out for further fundraising activities next half term which includes Mrs Gibson, one of our office ladies jumping out of a plane!!!

National Storytelling Month
As you know, we have been celebrating all things magical for National Share a Story Month. So far we have created mythical beasts and taken over the school's Instagram page. We are thoroughly enjoying the myths and magical stories we are reading in class.
A postponed dress up for World Book Day is planned for Wednesday 19th May 2021. As you will remember school was closed on World Book Day - a day we look forward to celebrating every year. To make the most of National Share a Story Month we thought there'd be nothing more exciting than dressing up as our favourite characters. Try sticking with the theme of 'Myths, Magic and Mayhem'. Here are some suggestions for you: unicorns, dragons, witches, wizards, Gruffalos, trolls, ogres, mermaids, fairies, goblins and monsters - just to name a few!
Please don't feel like your outfit has to be shop-bought. We know how creative our Broadford pupils are so why not create some wonderful masks and props at home?

Parent/Carer surveys

We love to read your feedback and hear about what you think we do well, and also how we may be able to improve. The pandemic has caused significant disruption to us all and as a school, we have not been able to provide many of the additional opportunities that we would like to. However, we would be grateful if you would take the time to complete the survey - It should take no more than 2-3 minutes and is open until Friday 21st May. Thank you!
