Nursery: Home Learning Wednesday 27th January 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Spring 1; Week 3 Theme: Owl Babies

Today’s learning includes:

  • Nursery Rhyme

  • Activity

  • Daily Challenge

Our daily activities will reflect the adult led learning that would have taken place in nursery so it is important that your child engages with this learning in addition to child-led play. We will be responding to Evidence Me Parent Shares each week to see how your child is getting on at home.

Nursery Rhyme: “Two Little Dickie Birds” Finger-play

How to play:

It is played by an adult who is playing with both of his index fingers, pointing them so the child can see it well. One hand is for Peter, and one hand is for Paul.

At the line: “Two little dickie birds, Sitting on a wall” both hands are exposed to the child, alternatively playing with the index finger (while hiding the rest of the fingers).

At the next two lines, “One named Peter” and “One named Paul” only one finger will be moving, to attract the attention: first Peter’s hand and second Paul’s hand.

To the next lines: “Fly away Peter!” and “Fly away Paul!” your hands will fly one by one, hiding to the back and then they will come back with the next words: “Come Back Peter!” and “Come Back Paul!” again one by one.

“Two Little Dickie Birds” Lyrics

Two little dickie birds, Sitting on a wall;

One named Peter,

One named Paul.

Fly away Peter!

Fly away Paul!

Come Back Peter!

Come Back Paul!

Here is a fun version where the birds are also called Quiet and Loud.

Activity

Meet real owls and ask them your questions

Choose a Live Owl Webcam to watch by clicking on the link. Use questioning to prompt your child to think about what they would like to ask the owl. Write down your child’s questions and send them into us using Evidence Me.

Key Questions: What can you see? What are they doing? What might you ask the owl?

If your child is still learning to speak, this will be a great opportunity to describe what they can see. Use these questions to prompt your speech: who can you see, what are they doing, where are they, what do they look like?

Daily Challenge: Wellbeing Wednesday

We are all spending a lot of time in front of our computer screens at the moment, which we understand is a lot and does not always have a positive effect on us. Whilst we know that so many of you are working really hard with online learning we know that it is always good to take a break; that is why we are introducing Wellbeing Wednesday. We want to enjoy an afternoon that involves no screens instead you could go for a walk and have an adventure outside, get cosy in a homemade den, or try and follow a recipe – with your parents’ help of course! We are looking forward to it and we hope you are as well.

We understand that home learning is not the norm so take each day as it comes; if you are feeling overwhelmed at this time remember we are here to speak to. One of the best things during this time is to keep your child's usual routine for getting up, meal times and bedtime. Exercise is important for us all so wrapping up warm, getting outside in the fresh air also makes a big difference to our mental health.

Kind regards,

The Nursery Team
