During this time it can be difficult to know who to speak to about the little things or problems that you as parents and carers face. The aim of these weekly parent and carer blogs is to keep you up to date with additional support and where to find it.
Children's Mental Health Week is taking place on 1-7 February 2021. This year's theme is Express Yourself.
To mark the start of Children’s Mental Health Week, The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of Place2Be, has sent a message of support encouraging children and parents to find ways to share their thoughts and feelings, particularly during such a challenging time. Listen to the her message here.
You may wish to visit the Parent and Carer section on the Children’s Mental Health Week website to find out the ways you can support your child to express their feelings.
Learn techniques to help understand your child’s feelings and to support them in expressing their feelings through watching the Empowering Parents Empowering Communities short video.
How to Stay Calm in a Global Pandemic
Time and time again we hear the phrase that ‘these are unprecedented times’ and don’t we know it. This little booklet is doing the rounds on social media at the moment so have a look and you may find something helpful.
What about Storytelling week?
National Storytelling Week is celebrated for a full week in February and takes places in all sorts of places, including schools, hospitals and care homes. Stories are chosen and are told in a magical way between the teller and the listener. It's a fantastic way for people to share their own story, or even invent something entirely new (and endlessly entertaining). Finding the time to read with children can often be difficult, especially with the increase in technology. However, story time is an important part of a child’s life.
Here is a short video providing some key information and tips around early reading, created by Broadford Primary School; we hope it is helpful and enjoyable to watch.
Finally, in the relevant words of Charles Wright, Express Yourself and enjoy his big band performance of the song by following the link!
