Nursery: Home Learning Tuesday 2nd February 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Spring 1; Week 4 Theme: Chinese New Year

Today’s learning includes:

  • Story

  • Activity

  • Daily Challenge

  • Physical Development

Our daily activities will reflect the adult led learning that would have taken place in nursery so it is important that your child engages with this learning in addition to CHILD-LED PLAY

We will be responding to Evidence Me Parent Shares each week to see how your child is getting on at home.

Activity

Grab some play dough, a soft ball or a pair of socks, and join Mrs Light at the Dough Disco here.

Daily Challenge

Science is an opportunity to discover through experiments and today you can do this with the snow!

Equipment: Three cups/ containers, spade or large spoon, a fridge & freezer and some snow.

Method:

  1. Wrap up warm and go outside with the three cups and a spade or large spoon.

  2. Collect equal amounts of snow in each container (a great opportunity to count spoonfuls of snow).

  3. Predict: what might happen if we take the snow inside?

  4. Place one container in the fridge, one in the freezer and one in a room.

  5. Hypothesise: what might happen to the snow in each container and why?

  6. Observe the snow across the day and have a discussion around what makes snow melt, making the link between warmth and melting.

We would love to see what your child’s thoughts were and if they make a conclusion but most of all: have fun!

Physical Development

We understand that home learning is not the norm so take each day as it comes; if you are feeling overwhelmed at this time remember we are here to speak to. One of the best things during this time is to keep your child's usual routine for getting up, meal times and bedtime. Exercise is important for us all so wrapping up warm, getting outside in the fresh air also makes a big difference to our mental health.

Kind regards,

The Nursery Team
